MacBook Pro Mid 2012 HDD to SSD upgrade

Hello all,

I currently have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13” with the hitachi 500gb HDD. It is running very slow and sluggish. I am looking to upgrading to a SSD. The one I have picked out is the Sandisk Ultra 3D SSD 512gb. I am looking to find out the process and what I am going to need beforehand to transfer all of my data from my HDD to the new SSD to make the process as painless as possible. I currently do not have a time machine backup or external hard drive. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You may want to replace the internal hard drive SATA Cable as well since this cable has an extremely high rate of failure in this particular model laptop especially when using an SSD. OWC sells the hard drive SATA Cable for this laptop.

Make sure to get an external drive dedicated for your backup solution whether it is Time Machine, or some other backup strategy. FYI, it is impossible to recover accidentally deleted data from an SSD after the Trash has been emptied due to how SSDs operate internally. Also an SSD can fail at any time without any warning signs.
