Printer driver software

I have an iMac with macOS Big Sur version 11.2.3 installed and am attempting to reconnect this to my HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer/scanner. The printer worked fine until very recently and still appears to be connected to my wireless network, but it has now stopped printing or scanning. Moreover, having gone through System Preferences and removed the printer/scanner from the list, it will not add back. After following all the set-up procedures I now receive a message stating "Unable to verify the printer on your network". Any advice please?
