I've replaced my 8 year-old MacBook Pro Retina 13-in with a new model A 2337. They sold me a power cord adapter "USB-C to USB". It doesn't fit the old power cord. Is this a wrong adapter?

I'm not sure which model you have since you mention a MBPro yet the A2337 number comes up as an M1 MBAir in my search. Regardless you can use a larger size charger even with the MBAir. The MBPro requires at least a 61W charger which can be purchased from Apple:

For future reference here is an Apple article on how to properly identify the correct charger for your laptop:

Edit: If they sold you a USB-C to USB-A Adapter, then most likely you will need it to connect a standard USB device to the laptop since the older style USB-A connector is common for the majority of peripherals.

Can you post a picture of the adapter they sold you? It sounds like they sold you a USB-C to USB-A Adapter for using the older style USB devices with the new USB-C Apple laptops or perhaps a USB-C Multi-port adapter.

The new laptops use a USB-C power adapter while the older 2015 and older Apple laptops use a Magsafe or Magsafe 2 charger which includes an LED on the connector. If you want another charger for your new laptop, then it is best to purchase the proper new charger for the laptop. It is best to use the official Apple original charger with these USB-C Apple laptops since a cheap third party charger can easily damage the Logic Board. In a pinch you could use an OEM USB-C charger for another brand laptop.

I appreciate your super-fast reply.

Yes it makes sense to get the proper charger for this model. I’ll order it. Can you give me the exact spec/number for it?

In the meantime, I’m not pleased to have been sold a product that doesn’t work when I had my old computer there with me for the guy to look at when selling me the new one. $19 plus tax plus wasted time afterward.

Again, thanks!

Bill
