Issue with Live loops Everything stops!

So I am trying to use Live loops as a live performance for streaming. I've run into this issue that seems random. I can't pinpoint why it keeps happening as it does intermittently. I will go to record into an audio cell and every other cell that is currently playing will just stop.

Also on top of that sometimes it just won't even record the audio even though there is a signal. I'm running this on a new M1 Mac mini and using the launch pad mini and the Behringer UMC1820.

I really want to use this live but if I can't figure this out I guess I'll go back to MainStage with the loopbacks. Anyone else run into this issue or am I missing something totally simple? Thanks!

Mac mini, macOS 11.2

Hi there,

I am happy to assist you and be a part of your Logic Pro experience.

Can you confirm 2 things?

  • In the CELL INSPECTOR can you confirm that the "At Rec-End" settings is set to PLAY

  • Can you also confirm that when you do record into a Cell that you are using this key command? Please confirm that you are using this key command to record data into the cell and also to get out of recording and back into playback. Using Spacebar would stop the Playback of the Playhead but also the Live Loops themselves.

I may have other suggestions but let's start here. Thank you for taking the time.

Hope this helps and solves your query,

Eddie G.

HI there,

I do believe if you try this on a clean session with just 2 tracks and 2 plug-ins, we can get a better sense if this is a Latency issue or not. Also, can you enable this in you Preferences>Audio>Devices:

BTW what is your Buffer Size set to? It should be somewhere in the middle 256/512 is possible.

In my experience, Live Loops does not perform well when you have many CPU intensive plug-ins such as Kontakt., Omnisphere, Keyscape, etc. Try and bounce as many as you can to audio if you are not performing them in live.

Another option is to freeze any tracks using "Source Only", this also may help and still allow you to change plug-in parameters as needed. You will not be able to change the Instrument Source but it can help with CPU management.

Also, do you have this enabled? Input Monitoring Only for the focused track

Hope this helps,

Eddie G.

Hey EddieGrey,

So yes and no. When I only have one track armed and the other dormant it seems to fix the issue and I can still be in 128 to minimize latency. But it's introduced a new issue which maybe can be fixed? Now I have to unarm and un Input Monitor the last track I looped then arm rec and IM the next track I want to loop and then click cell length in rec-length because it keeps turning off. By the time I've done all that 10 bars have gone by. I would like to make it a quick work flow like one or two buttons and on to the next loop. Do you know of a way to make this happen or is Abelton a better choice for this? I love working in Logic though.

Hi there,

You can Use "Cell Default" to assign CEL LENGTH for specific tracks or cells. Do you remember out earlier thread?

This will allow you to set specific behavior for the "individual cell" or the entire track so every time you pull up a software instrument, the settings have already been pre-configured for you (because you did the work in advance).

-

When the track is Record Enabled and you have selected an empty cell, it will look like this:

Set the Parameters in the Empty MIDI CELL if you have any preferences and you should be good to go.

If you click just the track, you will see this in the inspector:

If you click on the cell and see the white frame around it, you will see:

Hi there,

Let's start on a new session. If a Scene is playing back by means of the "Scene Trigger", you should be able to record freely into a cell so long as its parameters are set and you are using the appropriate key command/assignment.

Trigger the Scene

At this point, select the Cell you want to record in and make sure that the white line is focused around the CELL like so (Also, be sure the track is record enabled (Key Command = CTRL+R)

When the track is Record Enabled and you have selected an empty cell, it will look like this:

Set the Parameters in the Empty MIDI CELL if you have any preferences and you should be good to go.

To expedite this process...

Can you try this in a new session for me and let me know how it goes?

Hope this helps and solves your query,

Eddie G.

That’s how I have it all set up and ready to go. I already tried starting a fresh session and ran into the issue again.

One thing I should mention is I have multiple audio tracks and midi tracks. I’m running a few different Keyscapes, Omnishperes, and IK multimedia plugins. With the audio tracks I have one for acoustic drums, organ, congas and percussion, and a clavinet. I’m leaving them all record enabled and input monitoring turned so I can play any instrument at any time while the loops are going.

So maybe there is something I need to enable to be able to have all of that going at once? But the thing is I tried turning off all of the tracks and only have rec enabled on the track I’m going to loop and the issue still happens, intermittently.

Thanks, I’ll give that a try. This is the reason I got the new Mac mini with the M1 chip because multiple people have said they have opened logic/mainstage sessions with 60+spectrasonic plug ins at once before fully taxing the cpu load. How could I be taxing it already at only 4-6? I do have it at 128 buffer range for best latency results but I’ll try going up a little. I think I’m just still running into having a bigger imagination than Apple can handle. 😞. I hope not. Maybe I should just hold out for the next chip set.
