Entire timeline vanished in Final Cut Pro!

Hi,

I've hit a crisis. My entire movie has disappeared from my 45-minute, almost completed project! The library is still there with all the media, including stuff I downloaded this morning, but all of the carefully arranged clips are missing from the timeline.

I can see the project folder at the top of the browser, but nothing happens when I click on it and now I don't really know what to do. It'll be a bit heartbreaking if I've lost the lot.

I can see back up folders in my Movies folder, but these don't seem to load, but to be honest I'm in such a stressful state I'm probably overlooking something! Could somebody bail me out?

One thing that happened was that my SSD reached full. Final Cut reported it had shut down to save everything. I moved an older library of the project off the SSD to make room and onto an archive disk. Have I ruined everything??

If your drive is full, start by deleting generated files. Select the library in the browser sidebar and do File->Delete Generated Library Files. Check all the boxes, including All render files.

Now select the long clip and do Clip->Open Clip.

Do the contents show what you expected to be in the project?

If so, select All, Copy.

Then create a new project with the desired frame size and rate, and Paste.

Hi guys,

I'll look at doing that. I'm absolutely certain I created a new project within the library when I started work. However the project is reporting it's two minutes long. There is a clip of the right length, but this has an exclamation mark against it in a little yellow triangle. Could the file have corrupted when I hit full capacity on the SSD?

Hi guys,

That's all that opening. Before it was full of clips and a 45 minute soundtrack. I'm just at a loss. I'm assuming there's some file somewhere which contains all the instructions to put the clips in order, but it seems to be utterly missing. It's just gone!

The only project that shows up in smart collections won't open. The inly other file was a clip but that had two scenes in and wasn't the full reel. All of the media is there and if I open projects it gives me the option to open a back up from earlier today. Is that my best course?

Hi guys,

Now I'm really baffled. A clip's appeared called 'Universerese start which wasn't there five minutes ago. It's not the latest latest version of the stuff but it's only a morning's work off. I have no idea how this came up. It's in an event (see the screen shot). Has the project somehow morphed into a clip? I'm just baffled! Should I just carry with this or can I convert it to a project?

Wow, thanks Luis and Tom. You're absolute heroes and thanks so much for taking time out of your day to help me. I seemed to have got into a really weird mess there and there's no way I'd ever have figured it out.

I'll come back and post a link when I've completed the project, so you can see what you saved. I produced a psychedelic concept album for my band last year and this will be the 45 minute video to go with it. Talk about a steep learning curve!

All the very best,
