mid-2013 macbook air giving me a huge trouble

I have a pretty bad problem with an mid-2013 macbook air that I borrowed from somebody else, and I hope to get some help here.

The thing is it doesn't start; when I push the power button, all I can see is a flashing file icon. Disk utility shows no disk installed. I tried (probably) everything on disk utility, and a tech studio couldn't do anything either. another tech store told me it's because ssd is dead.

Now I am looking to buy an ssd online, but... if I am right, I see requirements such as upgrading macos before installing the new ssd. How on earth can I do that? The machine even doesn't start?

Hi,

Resetting SMC as well as NVRAM could solve your issue.

If they don't help, you would need to replace SSD.

You can upgrade your MacBook Air's macOS with Recovery Mode to install macOS.
