Erase Pending on stolen iPhone

My daughters iPhone was stolen and was taken to Mexico. We remotely locked it and reported it stolen, but the status still says "Erase Pending" but it was on at least a few times because I was able to see it in multiple locations in Tijuana. How do I know it was/will be properly erased? Thx

Hello JDiggs76,

We understand that you have questions regarding erasing an iPhone that's gone missing. The erase should occur once the iPhone makes a connection to a network in order to receive the prompt.

However, "If your missing device is covered by AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss, you shouldn't erase your device. Instead, file a claim for your lost or stolen device." This is because for the claim to process, it needs to remain linked to your iCloud account while the process is completing.
