There may be an easier way to troubleshoot &/or try to make macOS 10.15.7 work better.

Can't say what could help Firefox situation, however to start in Safe mode and login; that takes about 10-15 minutes to start. And checks system files, repairs some, and starts in limited mode. To quit Safe mode, simply re-start normally.

[You could also start in macOS Recovery partition (choose/hold 'Opt key' on startup select other drive partitions.) That should allow start into Recovery that could leave the Catalina un-mounted; to have clear shot at repair. Then leave recovery and restart in the main boot system.]

Anyway, a revert to older system, would have learning curve.

Backups and 'full erase/reinstall' would be a way to do that.

Perhaps other perspective/opinions offered here may help.

Perhaps Mozilla Firefox site may have information on how to remove Firefox.

At least enough to clear + reinstall. (If you've other issues, there could

be need to revert older macOS. Helps to have earlier Time Machine.)

You maybe able to reinstall a newer download; &/or use along w/ Safari.

Should be no problem, can run in macOS 10.12.x through Big Sur macOS11.

Haven't tried 'Brave' browser.. May be adequate, with curious options.

Thank you. I tried Mozilla support but nothing they addresses the problem. I will try your suggestions and let you know. Reverting to older version is probably beyond my level of expertise and may frustrate me worse than I am. By the way a few days ago the same thing happened only Win10 PC, but I had no problem finding it in task Manager and closed it - no problem since. MacBook does not see it anywhere in utilities
