Apple ID is an email address that no longer exists

My apple id is an email address that no longer exists and the account says I am reachable at that address.

Apple wants to send a verification code to that email, but not to my cell or my primary email for notifications.

I can log in to that account using 2FA that sends a code to my cell but then it wants to send another code to verify the email to that non-existing email address.

Why not change to a working email address for your Apple ID?

Thanks for the look Eric. I was hoping not to have to do that.

Although not active here I am a Legacy Member and don't want to lose that, along with 17 years of Music, Books, and Movie purchases tied to that ID, not to mention many devices.

Do you think that these will safely move to the new Apple ID?
