Call came through showing as one person when in fact it was someone else.

Hi,

I have an iPhone XR and yesterday received a call from a friend. As it happened, I was sat with that friend outside and they never made the call even though my phone displayed their name and photo on my phone. It wasn’t that their number had been cloned as the person left a message and it turned out to be my mum. Why would my phone show up as my friend calling when in fact it was my mum. Both contacts are in my phone and even in recent calls etc, it still shows as being my friend. Has anyone else experienced this or knows what to do to stop it happening again please?
