in icloud when i click photos, my photos are not backed up

how can I back up the photos on my phone to icloud. I bought more icloud storage, and I have it turned on on my phone. when I log into icloud, I see my devices and when I click photos, it shows photos from an old device that I reset, but not from the device I use
