Hello flkcnana,

We understand that you’re receiving an error message in System Preferences. Let’s work through some troubleshooting to further isolate the situation.

In Finder, from the menu bar choose Go > Applications. Then choose, from the menu bar, View > Sort By > Name (if not already selected) to sort apps alphabetically. Now double-click on the System Preferences app located in the Applications folder from Finder. If there are multiple copies of System Preferences in the Applications folder, double-click on the icon that has more rounded corners (this is the version that was installed with macOS Big Sur). Once System Preferences is launched from the Applications folder, attempt to open several preferences panes. Is this version of System Preferences working?

We're eager to hear these results, as they will help dictate our next steps.
