I have a CanoScan Lide 700F.

I have a CanoScan Lide 700F. I tried to use the Set-up CD on my Mac with Catalina version 10.15.7 and it wouldn't open. Is there a workaround or do I have to buy a new scanner.

You will need Canon drivers expressly created for use with Catalina which requires 64-bit applications, and drivers. The last Apple Image Capture (ICA) scanner driver that Canon released for the CanoScan LiDE 700F was in 2018 for macOS Mojave. So, from a Canon perspective, you have an unsupported scanner.

As it turns out, the paid VueScan Professional supports this scanner without any Canon driver or software. That is Canon independence and less expensive than a new scanner purchase. You can trial the VueScan product before deciding on a purchase.

In 2010, with a Canon unsupported N650U flatbed scanner, I purchased VueScan Professional. Not only have I not paid the VueScan vendor any version update fees in eleven years, but that same ancient scanner works perfectly on an M1 Mac mini with the current version of VueScan. I do not receive any benefit from the VueScan vendor for recommending their product.
