There is a possibility the Google Chrome may require 'newer macOS' to operate effectively.

However Mac configurations could need other hardware upgrades in general to work better.

If you've more system reserves in macOS, that could make it work better. (Some Mac users

say Chrome is 'resource hog' and seem happy to be rid of its weight; like an anchor, lifted.)

There are newer 'security and privacy' concerns with google/chrome to consider as well.

Other browsers include Firefox, Brave, etc. These could do adequately in macOS High Sierra.

An aside, saw nothing in cited above Apple Support link to match/answer your question.

You may need to restart the Mac into Safe mode (shift key held; login, to troubleshoot.)

~ Later, to Exit macOS "Safe mode" restart normally. This can help clear the system.
