HP LaserJet P1102w and Big Sur

This is a Hewlett Packard question. While I await an answer in the HP user forum, I ask here, too, in the hope that someone here may know.

My HP LaserJet P1102w does not work in Mac OS 11.2.3. I am not the only one; here is a big thread on point: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/HP-Printer-Drivers-MAC-Big-Sur-P1102w/m-p/7920544#M210842

I have tried every recommendation in that thread except for downloading an old driver from Gutenprint.

Has anyone here succeeded in running the P1102w from Big Sur?

This Apple tech note contains a link to a working HP Printer driver package that helped me get my HP LJ P1005 working after multiple failed attempts at using HP's own installer: https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US

I had this problem with a recent High Sierra update destroying communication with my old HP F4580 inkjet printer.

Had to uninstall all HP printer software and reinstall the latest package of drivers (HPPrinterDrivers5.1.dmg).

Links to both the uninstaller and HPPrinterDrivers5.1.dmg package of drivers are on the HP forums here:

(I also entered the link into the additional text in case it's stripped out in this post.)

Just be 100% sure you have the up to date HP (also for Samsung) drivers. The early 2020 ones before the fix were dodgy.

I did WPS one-touch with the old ones and all h*** broke loose on my network and on my mac (via IPP etc) (Obviously Not Apple’s fault, the HP drivers were the problem). Activity monitor lit up like a Christmas tree.

Also would recommend doing a printout of Printer Settings including what protocols are active etc. Just to be on the safe side. Disable any protocols you don’t use.

Well, I tried again--wth the HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.dmg. This is the installer noted in the next post in this thread. I downloaded this dmg file again. And this time it worked. I double-clicked it twice and got the Installer. I ran the Installer. It appeared to function normally. After Installer was done, I opened the Printer & Scanner preference and tried to add the P1102w. But the P1102w is not in the list of printers available for adding. I restarted the Mac. P1102 is still not in the list of printers that I can add to my Preference. I have the the P11102 securely plugged into the Mini via USB.

Wow, this is a challenge.

Eventually somehow--I do not now remember how--I got the Printers & Scanners Preference to add the P1102w. (I think I just played around with the Preference until one time it did what it was supposed to.) Now today I see that that Preference reports that my driver is no longer the generic driver that I have been using for many years. Now my driver is "HP LaserJet ProfessionalP1100w, 6.9." This is the first time I have seen an HP driver in quite a while.

Next I would like to get the P1102w set up with wireless connection. Doing so will free up one USB port on the Mac. But my local network does not appear in the HP webpage for this printer.
