recently got a new iphone. I backed up my old phone to i cloud then transferred all info to new phone. As i had leased my old phone i had to return it so i deleted photos off old phone. When i woke the next day all photos were gone from new phone and i cloud.
How can i recover these photos? (they are all the photos i have of my kids)

If you were using the iCloud Photo Library, this also deleted your photos from iCloud.
Check your recently deleted album to see if your photos are there.

the person at Optus said if I back up to iCloud from my old phone I can get on my new phone but had to return my old phone so deleted pics
they never said I’d lose them all. I obviously know nothing about iPhones.
but think what’s the point of iCloud back up if it doesn’t actually get stored there

There was no need to remove your photos manually as you did.

unless you have them copied elsewhere, they are gone.
