Where can I find a simple profit and loss statement template?

You could also to a search for "Profit and Loss statement template"

his will bring up a number of templates, mostly for MS Excel, which you can open in Numbers to check for incompatibilities. Most of the the math in P&L calculations is simple arithmetic, so I would expect few, if any issues in the translated files.

Have a look at the 'Income' sheet in the built-in 'Financials' template at File > New in your menu.

In addition to an income statement (=Profit & Loss), that template also has 'Balance Sheet' and 'Cash Flows' sheets.

The tables on these sheets have basic formulas for subtotals and totals, but are not interconnected as a working financial model.
