Screen brightness dims in sunlight iPhone 11 Pro Max

Is anyone else having the problem when viewing an iPhone in bright sun that the screen grows more and more dim. To be sure, I have auto brightness off and screen brightness full bright. Still the screen is almost unreadable. Very frustrating that the screen is doing the exact opposite of what I need when I need it. Ex. At a ball game and want to video kids etc...

is this because of heat? I haven’t had this problem until recent. At this very moment I came back inside house from 73 degreee direct sunlight reading iPhone to type this and it went back to normal full brightness after about 5 minutes.

Hey there, Losingfaithinapple.

We understand that your screen is decreasing in brightness, when it shouldn't be. Checking that auto-brightness was turned off was a good step. You'll also want to make sure that True Tone is disabled in Settings > Display & Brightness. True Tone allows your iPhone to automatically adjust the display based on lightning conditions. Another step you can also try is to restart your iPhone, which may seem like a simple step but it can sometimes resolve issues: Restart your iPad

Thank you for trying that for us. Another step you can also take is to backup and make sure your iPhone is fully updated: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

restarting and turning off True Tone does not keep it from dimming while in direct sunlight for extended period of time. The phone does not feel like it is too hot where it would need to turn down to keep cool. I have been outside in much hotter conditions and the brightness is just fine.
