Scan 35 mm color slides using Mac OS 11.2.3 and EPSON PERFECTION V500 PHOTO SCANNER with 4 slide holder.

What is the optimum DPI setting? How to import the 4 slide set to PHOTOS?

What software are you using to scan. Most slide scanning software will automatically cut out the four images, and save them as individual files.

If using the epson scan software, see here, and use the thumbnail preview mode:

If you can't get it to do what you want, check out vuescan. Not free, but very good.

Hi -

For scanning a slide, you will need a very high resolution. A 35mm slide image is slightly less than 1x1.5 inches, so to get about 12 mega pixels, you are going to need to scan at 3000+ dpi. 6000+ will give you about 50mega pixels.

If your scanner supports it, use the digital ICE dust and scratch removal. It will slow down the scanning, but save you a world of pain in later touch up.

To get them into photos, scan them to a folder, and then import from the folder.

Thank you for the DPI advice. I have not been able to scan to a folder. I will try again. I cannot figure out how to to "cut" a single slide from the four slide scan. Any suggestions?

Thank you again for the DPI advice. I am scanning 1960's 35 mm color slides and i am seeing things that were lost to memory.

I went to scanning 1 slide at a time because I couldn't figure out how to edit when all 4 were in the same scan. Any suggestions?
