Password on iMac not working. No toolbar nor apple menu. What should I do?

How do I fix this?

If you referring to the Administrators password, first try to restart in Safe Mode per the directions in Safe Mode Reset instructions. Then restart normally and test.


If that does not work, then:


  • Restart in the Recovery Partition by holding down Command + R on startup.
  • Open the Terminal app located in the menus.
  • Type resetpassword and follow the on-screen prompts.
