M1 Mac Mini Sleep + Bluetooth + Keyboard = Broken

The number of variables needed to get a keyboard, mouse, and headphones reliability and consistently connected to my brand new M1 Mac Mini running Big Sur 11.2 is ridiculous.

My desk while unsuccessfully trying to enter the password to unlock the mac mini that won't connect to a Bluetooth or two different USB keyboards despite a magic mouse that can consistently connect to and wake the machine from sleep:

Actions that seem to help, but are really "work-arounds" because they don't seem to last, especially if you let the machine sleep:

  • Reset bluetooth
  • Remove all Bluetooth devices and re-install those devices
  • Unplugmy USB hub (high-end USB-C hub I used to use with a MacBook pro, with displays, yeti mic, and more)
  • Turn off wi-fi and use Ethernet
  • Reboot and lose "pre-sleep" unsaved work

Next steps:

  • Turn off File Vault
  • Turn off sleep
  • Connect my Logitech MX to the universal adaptor instead of bluetooth
  • Continue to use a wired headset instead of my Apple Beats Headphones
  • Hope someone has a new suggestion I haven't seen elsewhere

Suggestions for Apple:

  • Figure out why I never had these issues with a 2019 Macbook pro.
  • Enable an onscreen keyboard a mouse can operate to enable login and troubleshooting

Anything else I haven't tried yet?

Thanks!
