iOS 14.4 Draining Battery...

On my iPhone 8 Plus, the battery drains for no reason. It was fine for the first couple of weeks. But suddenly, the battery started draining completely within hours, even without using the iPhone.

Updated to 14.4.1, and now 14.4.2. Didn't help. I already had a very minimal setup with less than 20 most basic apps. Battery stats revealed nothing.

2 days back, I factory reset my iPhone. I haven't installed any app, and I haven't logged in with my Apple ID either. Check out these stats:

In 18 hours, the battery drained out completely. I didn't even touch the phone. You can see that the screen was on for just 1 minute.

I have waited patiently to see if the issue sorts itself out over a few recharge cycles, but that hasn't helped one bit.

System says that the Battery has 85% health and peak performance is supported.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes – The battery health % is only an estimation of a dynamic chemical process. Replace the battery.

Hello,

Have you checked for a rogue app running in the background?

These are the standard steps for short battery life:

1) Have you tried a restart?  If not, do it now.

2) Go to Settings > Battery > BATTERY USAGE BY APP to see the apps that are consuming your battery.

3) Check “Battery Health” in the link:

iPhone Battery and Performance

4) If all else fails, consider a battery replacement:

iPhone Battery & Power Repair

Good luck.

Battery is advisable to be replaced only when it falls below 80%.

Besides, I was on a call with customer support today, who ran a diagnostics remotely on my iPhone and according to him, the battery seems to be fine as per the reports they collected. He also told me that they will NOT replace the battery if it is over 80%.

However, upon his advise, I restored my iPhone from the iCloud backup, and strangely the battery % remained stagnant at 82% for a couple of hours when connected, before slowly increasing to full 100%. It took over 4 hours to charge from 82% to 100%. I had turned OFF optimised charging, still the charging took that long.

Could this indeed be a battery issue that the software is unable to figure?

Also, this problem with battery started only after the iOS 14.4 update.

Prior to that, the phone would only be charged once in 2 or 3 days, as the usage is very minimal. But after 14.4 (including 14.4.1 & 14.4.2), the battery drains out completely in under 9 to 12 hours if used, and 18 hours even if not used at all.
