Unsupported file message in Photos for video shot on iPhone 12 Pro

I have been able to play the HDR video that I shot on my iPhone within Photos but there is a warning triangle and when I click on that it tells me that this is an unsupported file format

Nowhere in the ads about how great iPhone 12 is for shooting video do I remember anything about the file format will not be supported by Photos on your Mac.

I seem to remember it all being so seamless and easy that I would become the next Spielberg using my iPhone alone!!

What's going on here and what will happen when I try to edit it in iMovie?

Mac Pro, macOS 11.2

iMovie on the Mac can edit the HDR files, but can only output non HDR files. iMovie on the phone can export edited HDR.
