how do i completely turn off sound on iPad

On the internet, on this community, I see lots of logical suggestions how to disable sound.

The only method that works for me is by connecting my airpods through bluetooth and connecting them. Use case:

I use jitsi meet, I have two computers on one of which, (not the ipad), I want to have sound. The ipad should be completely muted as otherwise the singing around sound makes the setup useless.

So I tried:

  • in control center:click on bell, bell becomes crossed out, red. But still some sound.
  • also in control center, dragging the sound down until a crossed out loudspeaker shows. But.. still some sound.

But... a bit weird... with that setting, "every sound off" by itself, youtube is really silent.

But, if I start up jitsi, and then youtube, youtube gets sound, although softly.

Any ideas?

Thanks

(I have an ipad air2 A1566)

(On the iphone, jitsi allows me to disable sound)

Sounds like a plan! Turning down the volume on the iPad should turn down the volume for all sounds. For ringers and alerts, there is an option in Settings > Sounds > Change with Buttons that can prevent the alert/ringer sounds from being adjusted if the iPad volume is turned down.

If there's a setting within an app that can bypass this setting, we recommend double checking that or reaching out to the developer for assistance.

All the best!

Thanks for your reply, but I know how to disable sound...Using your procedure works... under normal circumstances e.g.

If I start e.g. youtube, I hear nothing. Play music the same, is OK.

BUT:

If I disable sound, then startup the jitsi (meet.jit.si) app, I can no longer completely disable sound, when I get input through jitsi,

but also, if I keep jitsi alive in the background, youtube cannot be silenced even though the the loudspeaker is crossed out (volume zero). The same occurs with ZOOM.

I notice on the internet, many places people have the same issue, often mentioning zoom. Although the weird behavior of

having zoom or jitsi active in the background undoes the disable sound in any other app.
