Weak security

my internet provider is SHAW , they say they upgraded us today but only to WPA2, they do not have the AES on the end , they say they don’t have that and they also don’t have WPA3.

so I am going to the Apple Store tomorrow to see if they can remove the latest 14 upgrade that was put on and is causing all this trouble. We have 2 large Apple stores here in Calgary. Hope they can help.

if they can’t help, we will call Telus and see if they have more advanced security than Shaw.

You've had the same weak security as long as you've had the modem/router. The only difference now is that the new iOS 14 shows you that you do. Otherwise there is no difference, although it would be best if your provider would offer more up to date or current equipment. The old security protocols have been outdated for some time.

Even if you were to roll back your iOS, nothing would change: you would still have weak security except that you are not getting a notification about it.

The only way to change that is to change to a modem and/or router that offers current security protocols (and that is compatible with your provider) - or change your provider, which is a bit drastic.

I have to try something. My iPhone8 is okay. It also says weak security but at least my iPhone wifi stays on. I can close my phone for a few hours and bring it back on and the wifi is still on. But my iPad mini which I’m using right now with wifi on works as long as it’s on. But if I close it by just closing the cover, I have to go to Settings and hook the wifi up again. Over and over all day.

it may be that my mini is older. It’s a mini 4, no cellular. Maybe the battery is weak. I don’t know, just hoping the Apple store can take a look at it and give me some idea.

Thank you to those who offered me help. I had every intention of heading to the Apple store today when my husband said he would try Shaw support one more time. Well hallelujah! He got a fellow who knew exactly what the issue was. This guy was great. We used my iPhone and he walked me through the process (which I would never been able to do on my own) and now no more problem! And the fix up transferred to my iPad mini, and to our two Apple TV boxes and to my husband’s two android devices.

And the fellow even moved our connection to the 5G. No more ‘weak security “!
