Can you share AirTags with family members?
Can two accounts track the same airtag? Can me and my wife track the same airtag if we are in the same family account?

If it were possible to share an AirTag, then it would be impossible to stop coercion. Someone in a domestic abuse situation could be made to share access to their AirTag and Apple has therefore prevented this.
Regrettably, the answer to everyone with a good reason to share an AirTag is the same solution that will work for anyone with a bad reason. Buy two AirTags.
True, it's more money, and you can imagine Apple is both glad about that and also figuring that the extra cash is an extra barrier to abusers. But the people arguing that you cannot share an AirTag also seem to unthinkingly assume you can't put two AirTags on an item." Source:

Yes just got 4 airtags and connected airtags to my wife’s keys and purse, but don’t show on my Find My. Given her iPhone, iPad and watch all appear on my Find My app via family sharing, I think Apple needs to rethink how “Items” in Find My works with family sharing. I’m the only person that drive’s her car, and wife is always “borrowing” my wallet!!
A "Share items" option or something like that into Family Sharing settings would be a great feature.
The possibility to track an AirTag for two or more family members is very useful.
For example, if there's a common item, like car keys, more family members should have the possibility to track an AirTag and/or share an AirTag position.
This is going to be a problem. I put Airtags on our keychains. We don’t carry keys for both cars at the same time, so we grab the keychain for the car we need to drive. But if 1 keychain is associated with the other person’s phone, and the keychain goes missing, they won’t be able to find it. Seems like they need a family sharing feature.
Was a big Tile supporter before that company launched and have used it for years. But AirTag’s finder universe is so vastly bigger and you don’t have to throw AirTags away each year after the device expires (which started to do my head in). So I’ve switched the family over fully this weekend. I too am strongly hoping Apple will add “items” to its family sharing permissions in the next release, just the same way they do with “devices”.
Great answer! I don't see how anyone can defend Apple's decision making on this one. This is going to inconvenience a lot of people who waste time and money purchasing these. They can't allow family sharing on all other devices except Air Tags. I returned mine already and will submit the feedback listed in the link in this thread. It's a shame as I was really looking forward to these, and hope that they will fix this issue soon.
i have Family Sharing turned on but can’t disable alerts being seen by (consenting) family members.
Having the option to make selected AirTags fully shareable between family members would be really useful; even essential in some cases. I hope Apple add this in a future update
I would also like to see this along with geofencing that alerts you when something leaves a certain distance. Everyone wanting this should put in for a feature request here: https://www.apple.com/feedback/
A bit disconcerting that they don't list AirTags as an option on the feedback page.
I bought these specifically because I just assumed Family Sharing was a feature. Seems like a real oversight, unless there is a very persnickety privacy concern. In which case they likely won't get the sharing feature added, and I'll need to see about getting a refund, because these are essentially useless to me without it.
What's the point of me buying an AirTag for my wife to attach to her keys and purse if she's going to call me to ask me to ping them, or need my phone to do the meat-space locating?
"Yes, never share an Apple ID. AirTags have one custodian."
Your statements are incompatible. How does "All she has to do is associate (set up) these AirTags with her Apple ID." solve the problem?????
This feature needs to be changed. I purchased an Airtag specifically to put on the dog's collar. This little Chihuaha loves to run off. We have spent 30 minutes to an hour searching for her only to find her close by in the woods behind the house. I was excited that all family members could search with their iPhone and find her more quickly. Now it is here, I have learned only one person is capable of finding her with their iPhone. :-(
To disable it, you have to take the battery out, and then push it into place six times in a row. It will beep each time. When it finally makes a different beep, it will disengage from the original device and can be added to a different device.
I don't think this just happens. Perhaps if it is activated with a report that the item is lost. I put AirTags on my backpack and my husband's backpack while we were traveling. We have since returned home and I have done nothing to deactivate these 2 AirTags or report them lost. They do nothing. They sit in the house quietly. BTW, I'm the more technically interested spouse so my husband is happy to let his backpack be "mine" . . . as in it is in my Apple ID.

I have the same issue…my wife can’t walk our dog, or walk with me when I have my keys, without getting spammed with alerts. Apple really needs to fix this now.
Apple doesn't read here for suggestions. You can let them know your thoughts here:
For the moment, Apple appears to view AirTags as an individual device. If you attempt to use them in a different way, you may well not be please with the outcome.
Agree… I have mine on my keys, and God-forbid I drive the children anywhere, we go out to dinner, have a family vacation, etc. My husband and kids get continual alerts that I’m tracking them. Similarly, there’s no way for my husband and I to both know where the kids or our pets are. Very disappointed & quite a lot of money to spend only to be disappointed.

Tile listened to their community 6 years ago. Many of the Tile community may also have been Apple users used to the family share we have with The Find my Phone App.
Have you let Apple know this is a feature you'd like to see?
The fact that Tile doesn't have the same privacy controls as Apple is something many people would consider an advantage to Apple.
