Time Machine and Big Sur

I have a new MacMini M1, a MacBook Air M1 both on Big Sur, and an old 2011 MacBook Pro running High Sierra. The MacMini is connected by ethernet via my router to a Time Capsule formatted in APFS which I have in bridge mode for Time Machine. All 3 have been backing up to it. The Air and MBP connect via Wifi.

Now the MacMini doesn't see the 'Data' folder, previously mounted on the desktop, and won't back up. The other two devices are still backing up fine. The Time Capsule is visible in Finder, and the Data folder inside it, and it is also visible in Disk Utility. I have tried Select Disk > Data again in System Preferences > Time Machine, and it starts the 120 seconds countdown to back up, but then hangs on Preparing Backup.

Any ideas?

Hello Martin Toal,

It sounds like you're experiencing some issues connection to your Time Capsule and backing up to Time Machine. We will be happy to help.

Let's get started by restarting the MacBook Air, and you may wish to restart the Time Capsule as well.

Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac

Once that is done, and if you still cannot backup, try this article:

If you can't back up or restore your Mac using Time Machine

Please let us know if this helps.

Cheers!
