Migration Assistant logs out but nothing happens

Hello, I'm trying to use Migration Assistant to transfer my files from my Macbook Air 11" Mid 2013 using macOS Mojave.

When I open Migration Assistant (version 10.14), it says "All other apps will quit when you click Continue."
I click Continue and everything closes but I'm logged out.

After I get logged out, I am greeted with the normal profile select page, and I'm not sure what to do from here as I assume this is not intended.

Help appreciated :)

Hello,

Yes, I have MA running on both machines. The issue is only on the old mac, where it logs me out. I didn't finish setting up the new mac: I got to the MA part of the setup and left it there while I tried to get the old mac working.

I don't have a time machine drive, as it wants to store ~85 GB worth of stuff? An unrelated obstacle is that since I've installed so many updates over the years on this mac, the system files take up ~80 GB of space on it. I don't have an external drive with me that can hold that much space, so I don't know if that's possible for now.

Honestly, I'll probably just put everything on the 32GB USB drive that I do have and just move everything over. I don't have that much stuff at this point anyways.

Are you running MA on both ends?

If so & you have a Time Machine drive, move that drive over & use it.
