disk i/o errors on mac os 10.13.6

I have a corrupt disk on mac os 10.13.6 and I am not able to repair using single user mode and fsck OR disk utility repair options.

I am also not able to use reinstall OS option as the disk is not mounting.

Is there any way I can reinstallOS without having to format the disk? I need to save my photos which are not backed up.

Trouble repairing Mac disk in Mac Utility Hello, I need some help repairing my Mac disk. Tonight when I restarted my Mac (an old one from 9 years ago) the file icon with a question mark showed up. I googled and discovered that it meant my disk needed repairing. I went through the suggested steps but got stuck when I tried first aid. See picture below. I clicked on the Mac OS X Base System and the first aid box appears (beside it is erase and restore up top) and there is a white box where I think my disks are supposed to appear and then the verify disk permissions and repair disk permissions and verify disk and repair disk buttons are all greyed out. I’m assuming there needs to be files in that white box that I can ‘perform’ first aid on. Theres also no sidebar to select ‘show all devices’ from (as it said to do in instructions) I think because it’s an old version. Any ideas what’s wrong? Or if I’m missing something/a step? Thanks

Re-installing Mac OS after erasing disks Good morning, I have a MacBook Pro A1707 (intel chip) that I wanted to factory reset and remove all data from. I did this through the command line and probably messed some stuff up because I can't seem to re-install MacOS. My knowledge is very limited when it comes to hard drives, partitions, etc., and I'm pretty sure I messed it all up. Attached are images of my disk utility and the errors I receive when I try to erase a disk or perform first aid on the disk. Also attached is an image of the error I receive when I try to re-install MacOS. When I try to erase the disk through the command line, I receive a "Disk cannot be unmounted" error on every disk. I know that there is a way to repair and format these disks correctly, but my knowledge just isn't there. I would like to use this as a learning experience, and any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Install & boot from another drive, or of the derive is NOT APFS the DiskWarrior may save it.

I/O errors indicate the hard drive is failing. Your options are to either install macOS to an external drive and boot from the external, or have the internal drive replaced with an SSD.
