i have erased my macbook air and when i try to restore using Command R and after putting in a wifi password i get an error -2002 after a lot of computer thinking.

The Error message indicates the Wifi - Internet Connection is 1 - not working 2 - is too unreliable 3 - too slow to support what you want performed.
