How do I copy files from a disk that will not mount? I missed that tutorial.

Okay.

If you have a Windows machine then try mounting the drive on Windows, copying all your data, formatting it and then using it with a Mac.

To mount APFS drives on Windows, you will need a third-party app.

Please note that this link is not maintained by Apple and can be moved or removed without prior notice. https://www.diskinternals.com/free-apfs-reader-for-windows/

Disk Internal's Linux Reader is one of the few softwares available for reading APFS on Windows. If you don't want to recover your data, you can format the drive from Disk Utility on a Mac or from Disk Management on Windows.

It looks like there isn't a fix for Error 49218 yet.

Thanks,

Vivek

Hey,

I checked a lot of articles but couldn't find info on what the error 49218 means. It seems like Apple hasn't elaborated on the issue. One guy contacted Apple support and they suggested him to do a full factory reset, but then his Mac stopped booting.

Like I said before, there is no official fix yet. You can try using Disk Drill, it's a data recovery software. You can also try emailing Tim Cook at tcook@apple.com. The email address is maintained by a really good support team which will almost certainly fix your problem.

Thanks,

Vivek
