Apple Watch podcast native functionality lost

I recently had to sign out of iCloud on both my Mac and my iPhone to restore the Handoff and Universal Clipboard functionality. This worked great for that. Podcasts on my iPhone seem to be fully functional. On my Apple Watch in the podcast app the iPhone link works fine but when I try to play directly from the Apple Watch I get the following message: Login in to iTunes on your iPhone to listen to podcasts. I cannot figure out why I lost the functionality or how to fix it. I also get a notification on CarPlay that says I can't play podcast from my phone although if I enable one from the phone itself it does play on the cars infotainment system. Thanks for any help.

Hey EZEVANS,

Thanks for the update. So now the Apple Watch won't pair with the iPhone. If they pinwheel every time you try to pair them, try restarting both the iPhone and the Apple Watch. This article has some steps for the devices not pairing, but you may need to contact us directly using the link in the article.

Are you able to sign into iCloud.com using your Apple ID?

Hello EZEVANS,

After reviewing your post, it seems like you signed out of iCloud and then you signed back in but now it tells you to log into iTunes on the iPhone. We'd be happy to help you get this sorted. Since the issue seems isolated to podcasts, make sure you have Sync Podcasts enabled.

  • "On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Go to Settings > Podcasts, then turn on Sync Podcasts."

Thanks Mario 49. I did previously check those settings and recheck them at your suggestion. I also got some advice to unpair and re-pair my Apple Watch. Now I am not able to re-pair my Apple Watch either as a new watch or from a backup. If I bring my iPhone close to the watch a suggestion comes up to pair. I agree, then the iPhone says I can set up for a family member or myself. I chose myself. It does the lost in space robot face fuzzy thing on the watch and I hold the phone over it and it recognizes the watch. The phone then asks if I want to restore from back up or set up as new watch. Either way this ends up with the phone saying signing into your account this could take a few minutes. it then proceeds to pinwheel indefinitely. I have tried this at least 10 times. I now have no use of the watch obviously. Any help is appreciated.
