Need to free up some space MacBook Air 2018

I'm trying to install macOS Big Sur 11.2.3 - 12.21 GB. However there is not enough free space on my hard drive to complete the install. An additional 7.54 GB is required. What apps and/or programs are preinstalled that I can delete?

You can't delete any of the Apple apps that came with the system.

The files that you have control over are located in the Documents, Downloads, Pictures, Music and Movies folders.  You can use either of these two free apps, GrandPerspective  or OmniDiscSweeper, to find the largest files on your drive so you can determine if they can be deleted or moved to an external HD for storage.

Note: you can empty the Downloads folder after the apps and/or updates that were downloaded have been installed or applied.  Many users have found a couple of Gigabytes of files in their Downloads folder which are no longer needed.

Generally it's recommended that you maintain a minimum of 20 GB (more if possible) of free space on your boot drive for optimal system and application performance.

As @Old Toad has already outlined things that can be removed. Just to very clear - Apple Specifically mentioned " If upgrading from macOS Sierra or later, macOS Big Sur requires 35.5GB of available storage to upgrade " and more would be better.

If you are still in the transition from Mojave and not yet in Big Sur - User Tip How to Upgrade to Big Sur to help avoid potential issues before rather than after
