Messenger themes not working

I’ve been having this problem since about October last year. The themes in Messenger aren’t working properly - usually the background is not showing.

My phone is iPhone 7 Plus with the latest update. I tried reinstalling the app, restarting the phone, nothing seems to ever work.

Anybody have any ideas how to fix this? :( I’m getting frustrated.

Background App Refresh not working on any app. I have an iPhone 7 running iOS 15.7.1. Many apps are not updating their content while in background. Apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, Twitter, instagram etc, Background App Refresh is enabled under Settings for all apps. This is NOT related to notifications. I do not wish to factory reset the device or reinstall the apps because I have lots of info in both apps that would be lost.
