How can I separate my iPad from my iPhone without losing photos on my iPhone? My storage is larger on my phone so any photos I take are filling my iPad storage. I only want to use iPad for streaming and social media.

Just turn off iCloud Photos on the iPad. That will remove all photos from the iPad and stop syncing new ones from the iPhone:

You may not want to turn off iCloud in its entirety. I just suggested turning off iCloud Photos.
If you turn off iCloud Photos on the iPad it will stop syncing the photos from the iPhone. Once it's off, You can also delete the photos from the iPad without affecting the iPhone yes.
You can set up a new Apple ID for your iPad and then rebuild it from scratch. Then your iPhone will stand alone and apart from the iPad.
An alternative to consider would be to enable Optimize iPad Storage in Setting on your iPad. The photos would still be on your iPad in reduced resolution.
Thanks for that . I was hoping for something a bit more straightforward but if that’s what it takes then I shall have to give it a go. The main problem is all of the photos on my phone are too much for my iPad and of course they automatically transfer.
That’s sounding a lot more like I was hoping. So by turning iCloud off iPad it won’t affect the photos on my phone? I’ve been worried about removing them from both devices as they are synced. That would be perfect if that’s how it works.
