BMW i3 (2020) and Maps EV Routing

I’m curious if anyone has been able to add the BMW i3 to Apple Maps for the purpose of EV Mapping. I have installed the BMW Connected (and My BMW) apps, I have Apple CarPlay enabled and I still can’t get EV Mapping to work. So too bad.

iOS developer here. This feature never shipped with iOS 14.0 in September last year. Last I checked, the SDK did not even work.

Apple engineering should answer if this ever shipped with any of iOS 14's releases, because as noted here on the developer forums, no one has ever been able to get this to work:

Hello francoisfromtheblock,

We understand that you’re unable to add your vehicle as an electric vehicle in the Maps app to take advantage of the EV Routing feature introduced with iOS 14. You may need to check with your vehicle manufacturer to determine if the app currently supports electric vehicle routing for your model, as not all do.

After downloading the compatible app for your vehicle and following the setup instructions in that app then launch the Maps app on your iOS device. Tap the “i” at the top right. Do you see the option for “My Vehicles.”? If so, tap “Connect Your Electric Vehicles.” Select your vehicle, then follow the onscreen instructions.

Let us know, during that process, where things are differing for you.

francoisfromtheblock,

Thanks for reaching out to BMW to confirm that this feature is already compatible with their app, with your particular vehicle and not something that is still being added in the future.

Where in the process are you seeing things differ? Here's that process again:

After downloading the compatible app from your vehicle’s manufacturer and following the setup instructions within that app then launch the Maps app on your iOS device. Tap the 'i' at the top right. Do you see the option for 'My Vehicles'? If so, tap 'Connect Your Electric Vehicles' and select your vehicle, then follow the onscreen instructions.

Thanks.

francoisfromtheblock,

We're seeing a couple different BMW apps in the App Store. Can you tell us which app BMW confirmed for you has this feature and shows your particular vehicle as compatible? We want to be sure you have access to all currently available features but aren't chasing down something that is yet to be released within the manufacturer's app.

Thanks.

francoisfromtheblock,

We're going to ask that you contact the app developer, BMW, and make sure that we're using the correct app, that we're not missing anything in the set up steps in getting that app set up and connected to your vehicle and iPhone and also just reconfirm current compatibility on your vehicle, the app and the feature. Here's a link to BMW's support information for the ConnectedDrive app

BMW ConnectedDrive and they list the following link as the developer site for the My BMW app The new My BMW App.

Should you continue to have any questions, following working with them, you can reach out to Apple Support here: Official Apple Support

Thanks.
