iPhone XS Max - White Spinning Wheel and Black Background

Hi guys. Had to ask you guys if I’m the only one experiencing this peculiar phenomenon.

I recently started using my old iPhone XS Max and updated it to the latest iOS 14.4.2. Every few hours, particularly when I’m doing something important on my phone, my phone suddenly displays that white spinning wheel type icon with a black background and a few seconds later I’m at the Lock Screen that only goes away once I renter my password and does not work with Face ID (the situation you encounter when you either turn off and then turn on your phone or enter a password incorrectly a couple of times). During this time anything that I was doing is lost and I’m basically confused as to why this occurs.

this is actually happening for other devices with 14.4.2 I heard many people complaining about that,

have the exact same random issue with iPhone 12 - 14.4.2 and currently I'm waiting for those who updated to 14.5 to tell us if it was resolved or not.

Hi Brittany. So I wouldn’t really call it a restart because the phone is functioning normally. It’s just that the screen does this weird thing where it blacks out and the spinning gear icon appears. If I’m on a phone call for instance, it will not disconnect so that shows us that the phone at no point shuts down.

Also, there isn’t any specific app that I could point out etc. It happens totally randomly. I have just updated my phone to iOS 14.5 so really hoping that fixes it.

If anyone else has any other advice, please let me know?
