I baught a iPhone from my buddy but he didn't tell me a log in code or apple I'd how do I make it to where I can use it?

our buddy will have to do this→What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. If they don’t you will never be able to use the phone.
