Is the new iMac carry one compatible ?

The new (and exciting) iMac seems to be super thin and super light. By the specs of its dimensions, it would seem that this may be considered as a carry-on item. I had a look at Turkish Airlines specifications for the allowable carry one bag size, as I'm flying from Istanbul to Chicago in June, then back.

iMac: 54.7 cm X 46.1 cm X 14.7 cm / Wight 10 lbs / 4.48 kg

Turkish Airlines rules: 55cm x 40 cm x 23 cm (Width x Length x Height) / 8 kg

Would anyone be able to provide any feedback on what they may ascertain of the ability to fly with this new iMac? On paper, it does seem to be thinner and lighter than previous iMacs and seems to come within the specifications of Turkish Airlines' carry on luggage rules.

Your input is really appreciated. I have a MacBook Pro, 2017 and it's getting old. I want to replace it soon, as I teach online. I have also recently gotten into photography, and now own a Fujifilm XT4 which shoots in 4k, but I never get to experience the quality of the videos on my MacBook Pro. I live overseas and would like to fly back and forth between the US and Istanbul while also lugging this with me, should it be feasible. I'll be back home in June, and would like to purchase this stateside.

Thank you in advance,

H.

10 pounds is pretty heavy. I used to have an 8 pound Apple Powerbook G3, and with the wrong bag and all the accessories it was difficult to carry through running anywhere. You might want to play around with a postal scale at a shipping site, and find something that is equivalent.

1 kilogram is 2.2 pounds.

Now if your bag distributes the weight well, it will help. If you do put in the cargohold, you will want to insure it for the value of the luggage and its contents. And backup your data to an external drive you carry in your carryon, and one you keep back at home. Keep in mind electrical conventions differ.

Apple intends this as a Desktop Mac and any portability decision is between you, the airlines, customs, and potentially, the criminals that see you waving this as bait. We cannot speculate about the suitability of a product for this purpose, none the least that it has not officially shipped to customers yet, and Apple frowns about speculation on these fellow-user supported communities.

Something else to consider. If this product is damaged during your transport between countries, it may void the warranty, and any AppleCare warranty you place on it.

Well, I would like to believe that we live in a better world than one where we automatically assume the people who handle our luggage might be "criminals". Knock on wood, I have not had an issue travelling, and I've travelled east and west, north and south for the past decade with a thing lost nor stolen. Airlines have security cameras inside their facilities and baggage handling areas and stealing a large Mac like this, would be ridiculous. Damaged, perhaps, stolen, highly unlikely.
