Phone won't turn on

My old iPhone 8 plus will not turn on. It's been powered off for about a year. I've had it on the charger for two hours, the screen still hasn't turned on. I even tried force restarting it by quickly pressing both the volume up and down button and then holding the power button, still nothing. Is there any way I can fix this problem without having to purchase a new phone?
