iPhone XS - How to copy a street address without opening maps

Sometimes, I want to be able to copy a street address as just text to add it to an e-mail or text message.  However, every time I select the address, it automatically opens a map.

I don't want the map, just the address text. It does not seem to give me any options to just select the text.

How do I fix this? Is there a setting?

Hey there, JGreg7.

We understand that you'd like to be able to only copy a street address, instead of it automatically opening in the Maps app on your iPhone XS. Can you tell us which app or apps you're using before the address opens? We want to make sure we understand the entire process of what's happening. If you'd like, you can view all available settings for the Map app in Settings > Maps.

Also, you can also see if your iPhone might have an available update: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch If there is, you'll want to perform a backup and then update: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Take care!

JGreg7,

Thank you for clarifying further for us. To confirm, are the addresses you are trying to copy appear almost like a hyperlink (with a link under it or colored a different color) or only plain text? If it is only appearing in plain text, then you should be able to copy and paste the address without any issues, but if it was set up to open in the directions in an another app that can provide those, then this is most likely expected behavior.

Best wishes.

Any time I try to copy a street address from any source, the [select, cut, copy, paste] option does not come up, the address just opens a map as if it were a link. This happens when I try to copy addresses from a website, contact, text message, e-mail, etc.

Sometimes, I need to simply copy the address to save it, add it to a contact, or send it to someone else.

The only work-around I have found, is to copy a piece of the surrounding text, then expand the selection to include the address. Once the text block is pasted, I can erase the unwanted text. This is not really a usable solution.

Yes, I agree with your response, that the plain text address should be able to copy the address. However, this is not the case.

In many cases, I will put the address to an appointment in the calendar entry notes, or an Evernote file, or a contact. Each of these is in a simple text field. However, when I try to copy the street address, the iPhone opens Apple Maps instead of copying the address.

Is there any way to disable this feature?

It does not help me to open a map when I want to send the address to someone else, or paste it into a note. This "feature" is most undesired, and not in the least bit useful.
