App not responding - Davinci Resolve - Editor in dispair!!

Hi All,

I'm having a problem with Davinci Resolve not responding after selecting a project. It also seems to affect Media Composer. I'm running this on an iMac Pro 2019 with 64Gb, Radeon VII 16GB Basically, start the app, select a project, and then I get the beachball symbol. Nothing in the app is then selectable and I only have the option to force quit.

I have checked the activity monitor and it just reports that the app is not responding. I contacted Blackmagic Designs and they suggested creating a new user. I did this and this initially resolved the issue.

However, the issue has come back and despite creating yet another new user the issue still persists and I cant use the application.

Has anybody experienced this before?

Why would creating a new user have fixed the issue previously, but not now.

Any help greatly received as I cannot get any work done without getting past this issue.

Best regards

Start wit this...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Yes, Safe mode uses very simple graphics drivers, so things requiring GPU won't work, but was perhaps a good diagnostic...

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I ran it is safe mode as you suggested and although it opened up the app I got an error message saying that the GPU was not set up. I tried specifying the GPU under preferences but the field for the Graphics card was empty and I would not update it at all. It was greyed out.

I tried a normal reboot and tried Davinci again but got the same not responding error shortly after opening the app.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks
