I have just came from an old apple air to a new air 4, when I was setting it up it asked for my old ID so I could use my old apps. I tried what I thought it was but said I was wrong so pressed forgotten password and it just took me to change my password, I didn’t change it and just went to skip this just now. How do I get back to this so I can use my old apps?

Because the purchases are tied to that ID as IdrisSeabright posted above. You can try setting up Family Sharing between the IDs if you want to be able to share purchases made with the IDs.

The apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID under which you purchased them. You can't transfer them.
Setting up a new Apple ID is rarely a good idea. You should recover the password for the old one and go back to using it if at all possible.
Thanks for your answers, I will just stick with my new ID because it’s only 4 apps that I am really annoyed with that I am missing out on, and it is more time I have spent on them than anything else. Cheers 🥂
Why did it give me the option to install them from my old ID. I had to change my ID because it was tied to my son’s email address when he set it up for me.
