If I remove my email account, then add it back will I lose all the correspondence I had previous to this problem>

Why did my email suddenly stop working? The error message says a port timed out but does not tell me how to fix it. If I delete my email account, then add it back will I lose all my current data?

In answer to your literal query:

If the account is using POP protocol, the "master copies" of your emails are sent to your ONLY reading device (computer). So deleting and re-adding could cause you to lose some recent messages that were not dragged into Folders "ON MY MAC".

If you access your email from multiple devices, you are likely to be using IMAP protocol. In that case, the "master copies" are stored on the email server on the internet, and you are unlikely to lose messages by deleting and re-adding the same account.
