m1 macbook air's Finder is very slow when opening / browsing / copying a folder with a large amount of items (especially pics)

When opening a folder with multiple pics items (on external usb3 hd drive connected to usb c port), finders seems to slow down and take close to half an hour to load. Is this a normal behavior? I am running macOS big sur on a 2020 MacBook air M1 and 256 SSD drive.

*other large files on the HD are working very smooth (both copying and browsing)!

the external HD is on NTFS system and am using tuxera app to load the external NTFS drives.

BTW the same HD is running very normal with my old MacBook air 2015 with direct usb 3 port.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.2
