If you don't have to, don't. If you do, I would only trust Lifeproof cases for swimming with, but make sure that you check the rating on the one you get. They also make bags for phones, but I would check how well it works by putting some paper or something that you can easily see if it gets wet while using it for a day before you trust your phone to it.

The iPhone is not waterproof. Taking it into the water, any water will most likely destroy it.
I would not subject a $1000+ electronic device to water, no matter what case was available. Keep in mind that any water damage will not be covered by the warranty.
Even with a waterproof case, I would not want to take the risk of any damage to my phone.
