Removing an old phone number that has been deactivated from my iCloud account.

Hello,

I’m trying to remove my old phone number from my iCloud account but I am unable to because it tells me that it is still being used my iMessage and FaceTime.

However the number has been deactivated and the old phone has been wiped so I don’t know how that is possible.

I have tried deregistering the number but no longer have access to phone number so I can’t retrieve whatever text message is sent.

I have tried changing my Apple ID password as well but that has not worked.

Trying to remove the circled number. When I click the “i” icon and then “learn more” I can’t complete any of the steps as I know have a different SIM card and a different phone number.

iPhone 12, iOS 14

Hi spookienyx,

We understand you'd like to remove a phone number from iMessage and FaceTime. We're happy to help.

If you've changed your phone number with your carrier, you'll want to use these steps to update to your new number for iMessage:

Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. If you're signed in to your Apple ID account there, tap on it and select Sign Out. Then go back to the main Messages screen and turn off iMessage.

Go to Settings > FaceTime, and turn off FaceTime. Then go to Settings > Phone > My Number, and make sure your current phone number is showing in there. If it's still showing your previous one, change it to the new one.

After that go back to Settings > Messages and turn iMessage back on. You may see the message "Waiting for activation". Wait for that to go away, then check the Send & Receive page, and see if it has updated to your new number. If that has updated, you can also go to Settings > FaceTime and turn that back on.

Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime

If iMessage won't activate the new number and continues to show the old one, we'd recommend contacting Apple for assistance: Get Support

We hope this helps. Take care!
