Macbook Pro Battery Service Recommended?

Hey,

My MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) is stating battery service recommended.

It also does not hold a charge for long when disconnected from power.

All rechargeable batteries have a limited lifespan and may eventually need to be serviced or recycled. Your own battery’s lifespan will vary depending on how you use your device as well as the settings you choose for it.

Your battery is performing normally, but its ability to hold a charge is less than when it was new. You may want to consider replacing the battery.

Go to Apple menu > About this Mac > More info > System report >

In the top section "Hardware" go to "Power"

This will display battery info including charge capacity and life cycles. Might tell you if something is not right.

Otherwise sounds like a battery failure if it is not past its life cycle count.

If it is within its life cycle count, then you can try resetting the System Management Controller.

I'd suggest just googling or going to apple's support site to look up your specific model and instructions. Its not hard, just requires you to power down, possibly remove your battery and power cord, and hold some keys down for a few seconds, then reconnect power and restart. Sometimes this will reset the battery or power management if it is measuring incorrectly.
