iOS 14.5 and macOS 11.3 Airplay Issue

My iPhone 12 and Macbook 2020 could Airplay to my LG 4K TV just fine. But since updating to iOS 14.5 and Big Sur 11.3 Airplay is just glitchy. It works, it connects, but it's so out of sync and glitchy that it's basically unusable. Can't get through 60 seconds of a Fitness+ workout without it skipping or lagging.

Just to reiterate, Airplay worked fine from my Macbook to TV prior to the update, there is nothing wrong with the TV here it is brand new and supports Airplay 2. Unfortunately these updates have rendered Airplay unusable.

!UPDATE! Have additional information - it seems to be an issue with playback of tracks on iCloud. With tracks downloaded locally in Music, playback is ok. There is no network issue at the time of the fails/crashes. So it looks like there is something not quite right with iCloud and Airplay. Would be great if someone else with the issue would try the same - download a track from iCloud, then play via Airplay.

Hi there scardsanity,

We understand that you are having issues with using AirPlay between your TV and your devices. We’d like to help however we can.

To confirm, are you able to AirPlay to any other devices without issue or does something similar occur? Let’s follow the steps outlined here as well:

If AirPlay or screen mirroring isn’t working on your device

If this only happens with your TV and not with other devices, let’s check for a firmware update available or reach out to the manufacturer of the TV to get the best assistance going forward.

Cheers!

Even after updating to iOS 14.5.1 and a Sonos update, Airplay is still having issues. If I play music via Airplay to my HomePods and then add then add Sonos, it goes completely silent. The track is still playing with no sound. However, if I connect to the Sonos first and then add HomePods, it works as intended. It’s incredibly frustrating as Apple iOS updates seem to be as glitchy as that of Google Android. Apple updates and products are not as reliable as they used to be. IMO, it’s really unacceptable. Reliability used to be the biggest advantage that Apple had over Google, Microsoft, and other PC competitors. Unfortunately, it appears that those days are long gone.
