My personalized Stickers (Memojis?) disappeared. How do I get them back?

I created custom Stickers (Memojis?) about a year ago for my lovely face for use in Chat. Suddenly, they've disappeared. Where did they go? In their place appears to be a feature that reads the position of my face in real time applying it to animals and robots and whatnot; I don't know what that is and I don't care. I'm looking for the custom static stickers I used to have with my customized face (thumbs up, etc.); How do get them back?

I chatted with Apple's online support about this, but no joy. I did figure out how to create a new custom sticker, but there's no way to get my old ones back; they've vanished!

As a former documentation writer myself, here's a suggestion to Apple: Do not refer to the same app or feature by different names. The helpful chat support person wanted to know if I was using "iMessages." What's iMessages? Apparently that's the same thing that my iPhone calls "Messages," right? I'm still not sure. Then there terms like "Stickers," "Emojis," "Memojis," all of which Apple seems to use interchangeably. Which is which?

Again, the first rule of effective technical documentation: Do not refer to the same app or feature by different names.
